There is a benefit that does not immediately come to mind when promoting equality between men and women. Yet according to an Australian study whose results were unveiled a few weeks ago, couples sleep better when both sexes are on an equal footing.

‘Citizens in societies that promote balanced gender relations when it comes to politics and the economy have a better sleep,’ says the author of the study Leah Ruppannear in the Journal of Marriage and Family review.
Better distributed stress
Which is, in fact, not so surprising since when women have professions with responsibility, and men are taking care of the home and the children just as much as their female counterparts, their roles are more evenly distributed. Women are less stressed about the mental burden of managing everything related to the household, and men are less anxious about family finances, since both partners have incomes.
When less anxious, men and women sleep better of course. The study conducted by the University of Melbourne, Australia, focused on the citizens of 23 European countries; those who have the best sleep were Norwegians, only 6% of them had bad sleeps.
