The most common dream is when you see yourself touching your own body, and pleasuring yourself. Here, it means that you are at one with your own body and your pleasure. You like treating yourself, and that's a good sign. However, it can also reveal your willingness to give yourself these intimate moments in real life, one-on-one with yourself.
Penetration dreams, libido on alert
If you’re a woman, and you’re dreaming of penetration, your subconscious is telling you that your libido isn’t being satisfied. You would like to spend more time under the covers. Tristan-Frédéric Moir, a specialist in the language of dreams, says:
These dreams are very healthy because without them, we would feel an imbalance; that there’s something missing.
The same goes for a man who ejaculates during the night; it means that his sexual desire is not being fulfilled.
Making love to your ex
The inevitable is sometimes bound to happen—you dream of getting hot and heavy again with your ex. When it does, we can all agree that it's very awkward to kiss your partner when you wake up, without being very embarrassed by the taboo dream we just had. But the meaning is more complex than it seems: it is not necessarily a regret for the one we lost. Tristan-Frédéric Moir says:
We have both centres: a feminine centre that feeds back to intuition and feelings, and a masculine one, which feeds back to actions and movement. When a woman dreams that she is having sex with her former partner, the ex in question may be only a representation of the opposite sex, which means that she comes into contact with her masculine centre, and therefore takes over her life and sets her desires going.
Of course, if the dream with this same person repeats a few times, then, yes, it may be an unacknowledged desire to win them back.
Homosexual dreams
Now we come to the final and for some the most puzzling type of dream: having sex with someone of the same sex. Once again, be careful not to jump to conclusions. While it is of course possible not to accept one's sexual or mental attraction to another woman—or another man—this kind of dream often reveals instead that we have love for our own sex, and therefore for ourselves. This symbolises self-confidence and a connection with oneself. Tristan-Frédéric Moir explains:
This dream is a classic, but occurs more often in women than men, because they are more open and have fewer taboos.
