Roses – especially red roses – are one of the most popular symbols of love and passion throughout the world. Roses were associated with Aphrodite, the goddess of love in Greek mythology, and Venus, the goddess of love and beauty in Roman beliefs.
King Charles II of Sweden popularised the fashion of giving flowers to express a message in the 17th century, with red roses meaning deep love.
