This is what Haribo green flavour is actually made of
The name of the candy is actually based on the name of its founder, Hans Riegel, using the two first letters of his first and last name and combining them with the first two letter of his city of birth, Bonn, to make Ha-Ri-Bo i.e. Haribo.
As per an article by The Daily Meal, the green gummy bears of Haribo which fans have assumed is apple flavour, actually is made of strawberry flavour!
The article quotes Haribo's vice president of marketing stating,
I can't speak for all gummy bears products but I can definitely tell you that the HARIBO Gold-Bears gummy bear products in the US contain five distinct flavors: Strawberry, Lemon, Orange, Pineapple, and Raspberry.
From here, fans can extrapolate that indeed, the green gummy bears are strawberry flavoured!

Reaction of Haribo fans
A Haribo fan shared the article online, where people were blown away by the revelation.
Are you me? I literally just noticed this today on the back of a bag of Xmas Haribo Gummy Bears for the first time in my life. I've been eating these forever and always assumed it was just some variation of apple.
Another green Haribo lover realised,
That’s why I like the green ones! I thought it was weird, because I usually only like pink/red strawberry candy...
Some fans had no idea that the different colours were supposed to have different tastes. One comment states,
The colors have different flavors? I always just thought they all taste of gummy bear
There were also commenters who pointed out that the flavours might be different according to the country of manufacture. One such fan questioned,
German or American version? Or both?
As a side note, I refuse to eat the American made ones, they honestly do not taste the same or even as good. Thankfully in Canada we import the German ones and not the American ones.
