‘It's lucky I didn't just leave the broccoli out in the kitchen'
Neville Linton, 63, from Dudley, England was absolutely terrified after he opened a bag of broccoli and found a live snake inside.
He bought the veg in an Aldi branch three days earlier and put it in the fridge. When he was ready to make a meal with it and placed it on the kitchen counter, he couldn’t believe his eyes.
He noticed a not-so-little creature tucked up near the stem. It was too big to be a caterpillar, Neville realised.
As his sister identified it as a snake, the pair popped the reptile in a tub and rushed to Aldi where the broccoli was originally purchased.
Neville, who works in industrial cleaning, admitted that he is scared of snakes and was grateful that his family members came to his rescue and picked the animal up.
A grandad-of-one, said:
It was pretty frightening. I'm not good with snakes. It's lucky I didn't just leave the broccoli out in the kitchen, or it would have been loose in the house.

A snake with the capacity to give a nasty bite
Aldi workers who initially thought it was all a joke but then got frightened themselves, took the animal to nearby Dudley Zoo where it was identified as a ladder snake.
The species is common in southwestern Europe, in particular in Portugal, Spain, southern France and parts of Italy.
Although not venomous, they can become aggressive when threatened.
They are capable of letting off a foul odour and giving humans a nasty bite.
Neville has been offered compensation by Aldi, but he believes it doesn’t cover the damages he suffered so he is pushing for more.
The father of three has a disabled son and a vulnerable mother-in-law who live with him. Would the snake escape it could lead to serious consequences, Neville thinks.
He said:
It's just not good enough - the implications for us, if it had got out in the house, are huge. Plus, I'm phobic of snakes so there's the emotional impact of that too.
An Aldi spokesperson assured they were investigating the incident, adding they have ‘robust processes in place to prevent such issues occurring’.
